Reflections on Psychology Month, climate adjust , and the path forward

My call is Eric Bollman, I’m the communications specialist at the Canadian Psychological Association. I am introducing myself here because I don’t normally write from my retain perspective – I am usually writing about others, or their work. I thought I would write this final Psychology Month article from a personal perspective, as I have learned a lot over the course of this month and I wish to share that – but I also want to create clear that these are personal opinions and perspectives from what I have gleaned. In our weekly Psychology In The News email that I send to membership, this would go under the ‘Blogs and Opinion’ section.

She is stuck, staring, not seeing anything. Frozen in place, off somewhere—floating in emptiness, holding on as if in vertigo. Trying to perform the things experience requires but getting stuck along the way. I hold been there, too, and I don’t know how to greet this fellow traveler.

I don’t comprehend if I even want to.

After my son died, I could sense the discomfort when acquaintances ran into me somewhere. I looked like she does. The string that connected me to others was pulled tight, straining. They could sense the tautness, sense that my connection to them, to this world, was cover to snapping. I could feel them trying to obtain away, pulling against the string love it was a leash. Talking to me would remind them that awful things can arise to people you know, that terrible things can transpire to you.

I stare too long and she catches me looking at her.

“Hi,” I say as I push my cart up next to hers.
