Rum’s beachside vibe and eminent mixability build the spirit fun: “Vacation in a glass” is how Todd Thrasher describes the rum and cocktails he serves at his prevent Tiki TNT in Washington, D.C.’s District Wharf.
Thrasher is heavily invested in rum: not only does he stock nearly different rums behind the exclude but he also produces and sells his four expressions of Thrasher’s Rum brand at the urban, waterfront Potomac Distilling Co.
The rum category as a whole benefits from the feeling of escapism. And after a year of this pandemic, just about everyone needs a vacation, or at least a good cocktail, whether at their favorite bar or restaurant, as takeout or delivery or via retail at-home mixology. Mixability is one of rum’s many strong points.
“Rum is the most flexible and food-friendly liveliness in my opinion,” says Aniece Meinhold, co-owner of Phuc Yea, a New-Vietnamese cuisine restaurant in Downtown Miami. She stocks a dozen rums behind the bar, but mainly relies on Bacardi 8, Havana Club Blanco and Añejo, and Santa Teresa for signature, rum-based cocktails.

I will be as fair as possible and differentiate the ratings on value and price. It is likely that the first rum distilled for commercial export was distilled on the Island of Barbados. In fact the tradition of producing rum on Barbados has been dated to the prior seventeenth century. There is evidence of small-scale distillation as early as , and the first recorded written usage of the word Rum Bullion appears on the Island in (This is the earliest recorded usage of the word Rum as it relates to the distilled spirit anywhere in the world.) Personal Statement
On my 30ths birthday my neighbours gave me a bottle of mature caribbean rum. Of course I knew rum before, ordinary rum for grog or cooking and white rum for cocktails, but not fine old rum aged in oak barrels. I was surprised how good this elderly rum tasted. Since that date I love rum. I visited many rum shops in Barbados and other Caribbean countries and enjoyed a drink at the bar. My favoured brands are Mount Gay Extra Old and Demararas El Dorado Rum. I had the pleasure to stop by several rum factories around the world, including Mont Gay in Barbados, Bacardi in Puerto Rico and Budaberg Rum in Australia. Only the Fabrica de Ron in Santiago de Cuba did not let me in. I am sure there are many good rums that I still don't know. I think, aged Rum is similar to Brandy but has much more character.
