August 22,

I devote the depth a charmingly flawed character brings to a story, and Isobel Starling has handmade a gem in Benedict Hannan. Naïve and a bit dim, Benedict has a way to go before he figures it all out, and the goings on in The Shooting Season are just the beginning of his education.

Set up to initiate him into the ways of the world is humble American traveller John Edwards, or is it art collector Artur Engels, or master thief Sebastian Cavell? Well, whatever alias he’s using at the moment, I treasure the chemistry between him and Benedict and I can’t hang around to see what Isobel Starling is going to do with these two gents!

Regardless of his pompous piety, do not consent Benedict’s buffoonery put you off. Ms. Starling has plans for him and The Resurrectionist series continues in episode two, The Gentleman’s Thief. I’m diving linear into the audio version of this one, and here’s hoping there will be many more episodes to come.

I know it can't possibly be true, but I can't help but wonder if Isobel Starling writes her novels to be rea

How to pronounce "Jagd"

Reaper

So how do you pronounce it! I’ve been saying “Jagd”. Just visualize me saying “Jagged” but without the “e” pronunciation. At my LHS today, one of the aged timers said it’s said it’s pronounced “yagd”. I suppose that makes meaning as Jäger is pronounced “yayger”.

In most European languages the “J” is pronounced like an English “Y” (as a consonant- think of in English Y swings both ways, vowel and consonent) so Jagdpanzer is pronounced Yagdpanzer.[;)] Then of course there is the umelat thing… the double dots over a vowel, makeing them long vowels in English…

tigerman3

Yup, it’s always been with the “Y” sound to me as well.

Then yagd it is! So jagdpanther would be pronounced “yagd-pan-ter”. I learn there is no th sound in german.

Don’t leave out, a German ‘w’ is pronounced like a ‘v’. And a German ‘v’ is sometimes pronounced favor an ‘f’. And the letter ‘s’ is pronounced like a ‘z’ but only if it is found at the launch of a syllable. And the German ‘z’ is pronounced like ‘ts’. Aw, heck with

Tollwood is more than just a Christmas market. It&#;s a winter festival! At least that&#;s what the marketing materials call it. The winter Tollwood (there&#;s also a summer Tollwood) takes place at the Theresienwiese, and it&#;s definitely the largest of the markets Munich has to offer this time of year. And probably the wackiest.

In addition to the hot spiced alcohol, carnival food, and kitsch stands typical of a Christmas market, Tollwood has several tents full of entertaining. There&#;s a food tent, which offers up delicacies from around the nature. Another tent is chock full of stands selling everything from seed jewelry to business hammocks. Still another tent has lots of untalkative white people wearing stylish clothes. One of the good things about all these tents, in addition to the entertainment they provide, is that they are also warm. During a drawn-out afternoon of Christmas marketing, it&#;s nice to be able to go inside to warm up every once in a while.

We also found some pleasant feuerzangebowle* at Tollwood, served in cups which deeply interested little shelves for flaming sugar cubes
