Gay Bars Closed: The Lost LGBT Scene Project
Logging the gay bars closed and other LGBT+ venues that have closed in London and across the UK
Weve created this archive to remember and pay tribute to the male lover bars and LGBT+ spaces that have closed. Theres no denying that the scene went through a heydey back in the 80s and 90s but as technology and other factors hold slowly become essential in connecting the LGBT+ community, since the 00s, many bars have fallen by the wayside.
At one age the LGBT bar was one of our only safe spaces. It was where many of us could feel at residence, be ourselves and with people who understood our journey. They were and still continue to be a hugely important part of our community.
We’re looking for your contributions to make this an essential archive of the LGBT scene in the UK. If you have memories, photos or even stories of some of the venues listed please click on it and append your content in the comment section. We will then include these to the main article.
Although this list currently only has London gay bars closed listed at the mome
London’s LGBTQ+ scene has long been complete of vibrant venues offering safe spaces to be yourself. Its heartland is still very much located in its traditional home of Soho, but you’ll find brilliant male lover bars and clubs dedicated to serving the community south of the river and in the East End too. There’s plenty of diversity in what they offer, from super cool and edgy club nights to events showcasing the best in the city’s cabaret performers and London’s incredible drag stars too.
Are you more in the market for a liquid and a settle down? Check out these LGBTQ+ pubs and bars.
